Rhythm of Effort II (2016)

video installation, audio, looping

Part of an ongoing series of works in which Ballard & Lewis explore the use of apparatus, designed for leisure and fitness, to reflect upon physical labour and its relationship to the body.

Here, they use a school playground roundabout to examine the ways in which we use the foot to maintain momentum - similar in movement to footsteps yet with an uncanny fluidity and perpetual rhythm, similar to a metronome.

Created in collaboration with artist Martin Lewis, in-residence at Summer Lodge, Nottingham Trent University, Nottingham, UK.
