HAARLEM ARTSPACE: PERENNIAL // 20 Jun 2025

Join us on Friday 20 June for the opening of Perennial, the first in a new series of annual exhibitions at Haarlem Artspace, celebrating the breadth and vitality of artistic practice rooted in and connected to Wirksworth and the wider region.

Bringing together artists living and working locally with others from across the UK who are seeking to form creative links with this unique rural setting, Perennial reflects Haarlem Artspace’s commitment to nurturing a thriving and supportive community of contemporary practitioners — both emerging and established.

Come along and see my new text piece, The Artwork Doesn’t Give A F**k (About You) - pictured above, right-hand side.

FEAR NOT. I’VE GOT YOU. // May 2025

This month, I received a Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health First Aid and Mental Health Advocacy.

A lot of artists struggle with mental health. Over the years, I’ve lost count of how many 1:1 coaching sessions / student tutorials begin with something like, “I have to warn you, my brain is a bit weird”. No it’s not.

Worried about bringing your weird (and wonderful) brain to a coaching session? Fear not. I’ve got you. I’m not a Counsellor or Psychotherapist but I can help you unscramble your brain when it comes to your practice. No matter how dark it is in there.

ONLINE ARTISTS’ COACHING - NOW AVAILABLE! // Apr 2024

Stuck in your practice? Need some help with an application / reaching audiences / developing an idea? I’m now offering 1:1 online coaching!

So,
you’ve graduated from Art School… now what? Perhaps you’re a mid-career artist experiencing a bit of a slump in your practice and you’re not sure how to move on? Or, maybe you never went to Art School? Maybe you did an Art Foundation and then drifted off into another career, and now you want back in?

We all get stuck from time to time. Let me help you.

WIRKSWORTH ART FESTIVAL // 9-10 Sep 2023

Come and see my new text piece Time Is Elastic at this year’s Wirksworth Arts Trail.

A truly unique event, the Art & Architecture Trail involves people opening their homes to turn the town into a multifaceted gallery with over 140 artists & makers exhibiting and selling their work in more than 70 venues.

Exhibition spaces include charming stone cottages, impressive Georgian townhouses, historic and quirky buildings, gardens, courtyards, shop windows and civic buildings and churches.

Wirksworth is a place where geology and landscape have shaped its character and people for generations. Come and enjoy a wander through the lanes and byways of Wirksworth, meet the artists, talk about their work and buy affordable work to take home!

AN HOUR: ONLINE PERFORMANCES // 27 Nov 2020

An Hour is an online durational performance exploring the concept of time as duration, in which participants draw solely on their internal clock to count time for one hour.
The work creates a tension between the mechanical measuring of time and time as subjective experience through performers' attempts to measure themselves against clock time. This tension is compounded by the knowledge that participants are being watched to ensure they comply with the instructions.

Commissioned by Radar to mark the launch of the Institute of Advanced Studies' 2020/21 Time Programme. https://radar.lboro.ac.uk/artists/alison-ballard-martin-lewis/

If you would like to perform in the work (counting seconds silently and minutes out loud, for one hour), please email David Bell - d.m.bell@lboro.ac.uk
