Created in collaboration with Artist and Technologist Mike Blow ‘Pod’ gives physical form and shape to low frequency sound at the cusp of human hearing.
Humming sounds emanate from within a collection of large ‘pods’. Each ‘pod’ is made from a 6ft balloon with an invention inside that Mike has dubbed the ‘Audio Cauldron’: a cardboard cylinder with a pair of speakers at each end. They act as a low frequency beat generator, emitting low pulsing sounds similar to the natural resonant frequency of the balloons.
The audience is invited to touch the ‘pods’, feeling the resonance that the sounds create upon the skin of the balloons and to press their ears to the surface to listen to the humming sounds within.
‘Pod’ translates the low frequency sounds into a visual object to be heard, seen and felt. With their own physical presence, the sounds can be experienced in new ways, associating a size and shape with the frequencies being heard.
